Christmas in Tivoli Garden, Copenhagen, Denmark

Walking into the historic garden, my partner and I are just about to doze off when out of the corner of our eyes was filled with glittering Christmas lights decoration. As we continue walking through the main entrance we were amazed on how they create that perfect Nordic Christmas atmosphere in the entire Tivoli Garden. Trees covered with snow, wooden house decorated with pine branches, thousands of Christmas trees covered with lights which creates a classic Christmas universe and of course Santa Claus and his reindeers were also there to welcome everyone at the amusement park. I was surprised of how huge this Tivoli Garden is because from the outside you will never expect this amusement park to be so big! Look at the map below and you will know how huge this amusement park is.
Tivoli Garden map
If you are visiting this amusement park during Christmas, there will be around 60 Christmas market stalls selling various things ranging from snacks, sweets, as well as a wide range Christmas themed decorations and hot drinks which are absolutely perfect in keeping you warm in the cold weather. You may even find some gift stalls selling postcards, leather products, deli items, knitted products, crafts, and jewelry. Christmas markets in Tivoli Garden are rated as one of the best in Scandinavia and this unmissable experiences are well suited for your whole family, so make sure you bring them along to this place!

Encompassing 8 hectares, Tivoli Garden was founded in 1843 and has become an international attraction and national treasure in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is the second oldest theme park and one of the most visited seasonal theme parks in the world. Tivoli Garden amusement park in Copenhagen is a must for all visitors in the city, no matter if you're young or old. The secret part of this garden is that there is something for everyone. The scenery is alluring with exotic architecture design, lush gardens and historical buildings. During seasonal, the theme park is decorated with thousands of coloured lights which create a fairy tale atmosphere that is completely stunning and unique. At night, during Christmas period you can even witness beautiful fireworks displayed in the park.

There are about 30 rides available in the park and each ride are designed to match the Tivoli Gardens architecture. Please take note that all rides are not included in the entrance fee so you may need to purchase ride tickets if you want to play. Ride tickets cost DKK30 per piece and it depends on which ride you are playing so you need to check how many tickets are required for the particular ride.  If you are someone who loves thrilling rides and activities, then I would recommend you to purchase the unlimited ride tickets plus. It only cost 295DKK which includes unlimited ride photo, VR in the Demon, free access to Tivoli aquarium and a spin on the Choc Wheel. As we did not have much time to spend here, my partner and I only managed to play 1 ride which is 'Tik Tak'. This ride is considered extreme for me and for this ride it costed us 90DKK per person as it requires 3 ride tickets.

Tivoli Pass

1. Tivoli Pass (8years +) = 350DKK
2. Tivoli Silver Pass = 700DKK
3. Tivoli Wild Pass (8years +) = 950DKK
4. Tivoli Gold Pass = 1300DKK

Ride Tickets

1. Ride Tickets (1 year +) = 30DKK (Rides cost from 1-3 Ride-tickets)
2. Unlimited Ride Ticket = 230DKK
3. Unlimited Ride Ticket Plus (1year +) =295DKK
4. Unlimited Ride Ticket Co-Rider for children (1-7 years old) = 460DKK
* The child receives two unlimited tide tickets and can be accompanied by a person aged over 14 years. Please note: child and adult must be seated together.

Please note that ride tickets can only be purchased in the self-service kiosks in the gardens (which only accept cards) or at the tickets office (this is where cash payments are accepted). If you already purchased the Copenhagen card then you can directly enter the gardens without going through the long queue just to purchase the Tivoli pass. I would highly recommend to all visitors who visit Copenhagen to purchase the Copenhagen Card because not only does it include Tivoli garden in the card package, you can even visit 86 museums in Copenhagen with this card and unlimited rides on the public transport, which sounds fantastic by the way. Prices for the entrance fee vary from season to season so please check the prices at tivoli.dk, Tivoli app, Tivoli box office and the entrance of the amusement park. The figure above is just a rough estimation and it is the price during Christmas in 2018.

When you think of food, as we all do, you don't have to worry as Tivoli is equally diverse where you can find some of the city's best eateries, along with some exciting and brand new food concepts. You can even find a wide variety of food stalls, each with good quality of food and own uniqueness in the Tivoli Food Hall. Not only you can see beautiful scenery, ride on extreme rides or eat some delicious cuisine, you can also enjoy some good shows in Tivoli Gardens but this varies from season to season, so always check for available information before you go.

If you are visiting Tivoli Garden during Christmas, and planning to stay till night time for the fireworks display then 3pm is the best time for you to enter. The first thing to do when you enter the garden is to stroll around and take some lovely shots for your mandatory daily instagram post before it gets too dark to take any decent picture. The thing about travelling during the winter in countries located near to the North Pole is that the skies will darken much earlier than a normal day, usually around 4 - 5 PM so pictures at lovely attraction sites must be taken before that period.

After you finish taking photos, you can then enjoy the theme park rides that you want to play and then have a nice dinner inside the Tivoli Garden. Once you're done with that, you can proceed to do some Christmas shopping at the Christmas market and by that time you're done, you're almost ready to enjoy the fireworks display. If you are not a fan of fireworks then you can enter Tivoli Garden anytime you like and enjoy the park as your planned schedule.
