Review : Holmen Husky Lodge in Alta, Norway

It was a pleasure to get discover the beauty of the Arctic with Holmen Husky Lodge. At here, you get to experience both nature and adventure activities. If you are dreaming of catching some northern lights and experience dog sled then this is a perfect location for you to explore. I would highly recommend you to experience the nature with them when you are travelling to Alta, Norway.

Arctic Dome Suite & Tipi Bungalow

Holmen Husky Lodge offered 4 different types of accommodation which are :

1. Arctic Dome Suite
2. Tipi Bungalow
3. Family Lavvu
4. Family Viking Hut

Normally, Holmen  Husky Lodge accommodation come in packages which mean you have to take their offered package in order for you to stay there for a night. We took their dog sledding package and were lucky enough to booked for a night stay at their Arctic Dome Suite and Tipi Bungalow . Our packages including 1  dog sledding tour with Alaska Huskies, Food & Beverages (Dinner and Breakfast), 1 night stay at their area, Northern light (if you are lucky enough), jacuzzi & sauna and gear & snacks.

Arctic Dome Suite is one of the most luxurious accommodation by far available in Holmen Husky Lodge. It is the only accommodation that has their own private bathrooms with both shower and toilet. What is the extra point for this accommodation is that it come with private sauna. The interior of this accommodation is so cozy where during winter you can enjoy seeing the snowfall by just sitting at the chair they provide for your near the glass window.

Tipi Bungalow however is design in a historical way, in where the idea come from their local native Sami people. Sami people used to dressed in animal skin and shaped a structure ideal for sleeping and keeping warm around the fire. Thus, Holmen Husky Lodge design their Tipi from wood and with a burning wooden stove that can keep you warm. Do not worry too much as all their bed come with electric blanket that can keep you warm if your wooden stove stop burning in the midnight. The downside of this accommodation is that no shower and toilet facilities provided in the Tipi itself. You have to walk about 1-2 minutes (depending on which Tipi you are getting) in order to reach the toilet and shower area. Holmen Husky Lodge want their guests to get closer to nature. This is really a different experience and you can't really get it anywhere else in this modern century. So why not give it a try? Personally, I am staying at the Tipi Bungalow with my partner and I really like the design of the Tipi. There is a large window, reaching from the floor to ceiling where you get to sleep on your bed and enjoy the snow during the winter. What's more amazing if you get to see northern light (winter) or midnight sun (summer). That will be your extra point.

Dinner & Breakfast
If you took their packages, dinner and breakfast will be provided by them. So, you don't have to worry where to get your food.

For Dinner:-

For Breakfast :-

Buffet type of breakfast where you get to have some cereals, fruits and bread. You can also ask the chef for some omelette or fried egg

Note: If you are vegetarian or not really into Norwegian traditional food (reindeer for instant), please do let them know before that so that they can provide you with other food. Dinner and Breakfast will be served at their main lodge which is design from an old barn to a Nordic Fashion - lots of wood, and minimalist style.

Note: Please take care of your safety when doing the dog sledding activity. It will be very dangerous especially during winter as there might be heavy snow or even hail storm. I personally experienced heavy snow during the dog sledding activities where the snow hit my eyes and make me difficult to see the road pathway. The one who is controlling the direction at the back should be very careful and must be alert throughout the sledding activity. Please follow the instructions given by the tour leader and make sure to shout and alert them if there is anything happen.

Extra information : According to the local guide, there will always be 6 huskies in a car sledging in which the first 2 is important for direction, middle 2 dogs for rotation and the final two is the power house for sledging purpose. 70 percent of the energy will be come from the last 2 dogs.
